Britney Spears refers to her gay fans as ‘somewhat girls’

On Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013

iHeartRadio Music Festival - Day 2 - BackstagePop star Britney Spears does have a huge gay following but is she driving a wedge between herself and the gay community? As the Huffington Post reports on December 2, the pop diva opened up about her gay fans in a new interview in which she credited them as her inspiration.

The interview was timely for Spears, as it comes just a day before her December 3 release of her anticipated new album “Britney Jean”. In the interview with Pride Source, she expresses her love for her gay fans and said she would never say anything bad about them. Not bad right? But it’s the analogy she makes that may put her under further fire when it comes to the gay community.

“I get inspiration from them on almost all of my songs. They’re somewhat girls, so it’s so inspiring to do stuff that they like to hear, like the cool ‘in’ stuff. Whatever I do for each record is definitely inspired by them.”

As some may take it as a complete compliment, Britney generalized an entire community with her comparison. She recently took heat for referring to a group of gay people who influence her as “adorable and hilarious” and also criticized by rapper Mykki Blanco who believed Spears was exploiting her gay fans by referencing her gay following in her recent single “Work B—ch”.

Spears responded to the accusation by saying that she used “b—ch” to refer to the gays “as a term of endearment”. To some it may be, but Britney Spears does have gay fans who are not “somewhat girls” and who do take offense.

About - Tarringo T. Vaughan always believed he had a love affair with literature. One of the first pictures he saw of himself was of him at maybe the age of three or four year’s old sitting with a book in his hand. But for Tarringo, growing up in the depths of the inner city both in Boston, MA and Springfield, MA made him believe that expression through the literary voice was un-cool and unattainable. As a very quiet and shy child he learned it became very valuable in his self expression. Born in 1976, Tarringo was the first child, grandchild and nephew in a family that had grown accustomed to struggle. His mother was a teenager who quickly lost the support of my father who today he knows very little of. These aspects of his life triggered the inspiration of his pen.
