Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers recently returned from an injury that sidelined him for six weeks to lead his team into the playoffs. But Rodgers recently had to battle rumors pertaining to his personal life, particularly his sexuality. According to CBS Sports on Dec. 31, Rodgers used his weekly radio show to address recent gay rumors surfacing on the internet.
The topic came up when host Jason Wilde asked about the rumor after Rodgers talked about life as a celebrity and all that surrounds being in the public spotlight, especially being high profile athlete in one of the most popular American sports. On the radio show Rodgers says:
“I’m just going to say I’m not gay. I really, really like women. That’s all I can say about that.”
As the NFL has prepared for its first active gay player to come out, a player the caliber of an Aaron Rodgers coming out as gay would be a major boost for gay athletes on all levels, but the Packers’ quarterback squashed those rumors and said he usually doesn’t devote his time in addressing the things he hears about himself.
“There’s always going to be silly stuff out there in the media which you can’t worry too much about, and I don’t. So, just, keep on trucking. I think professional should be professional, and personal is personal and that’s just how I’m going to keep it.”
