Out & proud: Young Australian actor Troye Sivan comes out on YouTube

On Saturday, August 10th, 2013

Social media has become more of a social outlet for celebrities who come out as gay. The latest is young Australian actor Troye Sivan who is best known for his role as a young James Howlett in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. According to E! Online on August 8, the 18-year-old came out as gay on YouTube.

Troye SivanTroye is the third celebrity to come out in the last couple weeks. First Cosby kid and Disney star Raven-Symone came out as a lesbian through her Twitter page and just last week British actor Ben Whishaw, known for his role in “Skyfall” officially came out. But there was something a little more inspirational about Troye’s declaration and message on his YouTube video which has gone viral.

He starts off the video by telling his fans that he came out to his family on August 7, 2010 and then continued with the following message:

“This is not something that I’m ashamed of and it’s not something anybody should have to be ashamed of. So why not share it with all of you guys. I’m terrified. I know some people are going to have a problem with this. This could kind of change everything for me. But it shouldn’t have to.”

Because of his young age and celebrity type status, Troye sends the message that it is okay to be who you are despite what others may think and how their feelings may change because of it. There is a liberation in coming out and a feeling of self pride being able to show the world that this is you and you aren’t different because of it.

He continued:

“And that’s why I’m making this video and that’s why I think it’s important that people make these kinds of videos because my aim on this channel is to make you guys smile and you guys laugh. And that’s never going to change…this is just some new information about Troye.”

Sivan’s message is reaching out to those who are questioning who they are and may be having a tough time dealing with it. He is telling them that life does get better and everything does turn out fine.

About - Tarringo T. Vaughan always believed he had a love affair with literature. One of the first pictures he saw of himself was of him at maybe the age of three or four year’s old sitting with a book in his hand. But for Tarringo, growing up in the depths of the inner city both in Boston, MA and Springfield, MA made him believe that expression through the literary voice was un-cool and unattainable. As a very quiet and shy child he learned it became very valuable in his self expression. Born in 1976, Tarringo was the first child, grandchild and nephew in a family that had grown accustomed to struggle. His mother was a teenager who quickly lost the support of my father who today he knows very little of. These aspects of his life triggered the inspiration of his pen.
