Hip hop artist A$AP Rocky had an awkward moment at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The rap star appeared alongside Jason Collins to introduce Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who were set to perform their gay right anthem “Same Love”. During the introduction Rocky didn’t seem comfortable and pointed at Collins when he said the word “homosexuality”. As Spin.com reports on September 11, Rocky is embarrassed about the moment and has apologized making it clear that he is not homophobic.
Rocky is not proud of how he was perceived during the VMA’s and as homophobia is common in the hip hop culture, the man known as A$AP certainly does not want to add to the stigma, especially during a moment that celebrated gay rights and self-love. In an interview with Stashed, Rocky explained how he felt he was perceived:
“I’m mad that my facial expressions was like that because I’m not homophobic at all, and that whole thing just came off real homophobic. I didn’t really notice it until i got home and saw it.”
